High-protein, Uniform Ingredient Profile Helps BiovaFlex Deliver Fast Five-day Joint Health Results, With a Variety of Delivery Options

When it comes to specifying ingredients for natural products, it’s not uncommon for formulators to want both consistency and variety.

“Of course consumer product developers want rock solid science and uniform ingredient specs,” said Kathy Hockla, channel manager for Biova. “That said, they’re often inquiring about our water soluble egg membrane (WSEM) ingredients because they’re new, different. And, they’re always very interested in the multiple delivery formats our WSEM ingredient portfolio offers.”

Biova’s WSEM ingredients are marketed globally and include BiovaFlex for joint health, BiovaDerm for skincare and BiovaPlex for animal health applications.

“Our patented processes ensure uniform ingredient profiles, guaranteeing manufacturers are getting high-protein WSEM—every time,” said Matt Stegenga, president of Biova. “We have a ≥88 percent protein standard in our human joint health ingredient, BiovaFlex, and consistently get around 90 percent protein. Similarly, both BiovaDerm and BiovaPlex are similarly standardized at ≥85 percent protein—with more than a decade invested in developing egg membrane products, I believe beneficial results come from high protein levels.”

Biova’s patented OvaPure and Hydro5 processes maintain the natural complement of proteins including glycosaminoglycans, collagen, elastin, desmosine and isodesmosine that make up BiovaFlex’s ≥88 percent protein standard.

And for the most important, clinical research shows that BiovaFlex does make a consistent difference when it comes to joint health.

According to a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover research study, a daily 450 mg dose of BiovaFlex was associated with improved joint range of motion (ROM) in the neck, back, hips, shoulders, knees and other joint areas often afflicted with soreness as the body ages. Study participants also reported increased activity levels and energy. And subgroup analysis showed reduction of back pain—as one might experience from exercise and/or daily activity—after just five days.1

The article, “Support of Joint Function, Range of Motion, and Physical Activity Levels by Consumption of a Water-Soluble Egg Membrane Hydrolyzate,” is based on the study conducted by NIS Labs, Klamath Falls, OR, and published in the September 2015 Journal of Medicinal Food.

“BiovaFlex offers the solid science manufacturers and consumers are looking for,” said Stegenga. “Today’s consumers can easily access the research of their favorite products’ ingredients. They want something convenient, in a form they can take, and fast results. Manufacturers are carefully considering science behind the ingredients they want in their products.”

With BiovaFlex, relief doesn’t have to come in a pill, which 40 to 70 percent of adults report issues with swallowing.2

“Forward-thinking manufacturers are embracing the variety of products they can create with BiovaFlex,” added Hockla. “Our WSEM ingredients’ expanded delivery options encourage formulators and marketers to target consumer products far beyond traditional tablets. With our ingredients, manufacturers can consider what’s new and know their product will still produce results.”

Biova’s patented water soluble process creates expanded delivery options for consumer products, including functional foods, beverages, lotions and more. A focus on sustainable production, anchored by vertical integration with some of the largest U.S.-domestic egg producing and processing partners, assures Biova unmatched raw material supply—the right combination of access and capability to drive opportunity and growth worldwide.
