Company Description
InterHealth specializes in proprietary nutritional ingredients including UC-II®, Super CitriMax®, ChromeMate®, Zychrome®, Meratrim®, LOWAT®, Aller-7®, OptiBerry®, L-OptiZinc®, Protykin® and ZMA®, among others.
In February 2013, healthy subject research on InterHealth’s UC-II was presented by Dr. Jay Udani at the 2013 Scripps Natural Supplement Conference in San Diego, CA. Research shows benefits for knee extension, exercise duration and recovery. The UC-II study abstract is published in the June 2013 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. In May 2013, this healthy subject UC-II research was presented at VitaFoods Europe in Geneva, Switzerland. There is much interest in UC-II in the EU (European Union) because of this healthy-subject research and because of its non-novel food status. Interest in the United States has increased not only because of the new healthy-subject clinical research that may help substantiate new meaningful structure/function claims, but also because of its once-a-day small 40 mg dose.
Healthy Subject Research Supports Joint Discomfort Claims
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, healthy subject research demonstrates that 40 mg of UC-II a day improves knee extension compared to placebo for better flexibility, mobility and joint comfort in healthy, exercising adults. Subjects exercised longer before experiencing joint discomfort and recovered faster after exercising compared to baseline.1 The healthy subjects in this study represent the perfect population for dietary supplements. This study corroborates 2009 findings published in International Journal of Medical Sciences.
Healthy Subject Research Supports Sports Nutrition Claims
Research on UC-II in healthy subjects is also beneficial for sports nutrition manufacturers looking to add joint support ingredients to their formulations. The significant results in knee extension help athletes of all types, from a seasoned pro to a casual exerciser, maintain knee joint function. UC-II may support the ability to exercise longer and recover faster. Just 40 mg of UC-II a day improves knee extension for better flexibility, mobility and joint comfort.
Delivering UC-II for Joint, Sports Health in Waterless Modalities
UC-II’s formulation-friendly properties make it a great addition to a variety of joint-health or sports nutrition products such as powders, gels, chews and sachets. InterHealth has partnered with Nutravail to deliver UC-II in an innovative delivery system. Nutravail’s patented, uncooked soft chew process provides a great tasting, chewy and candy-like matrix that doesn’t interfere with the efficacy of active ingredients. InterHealth has collaborated with Innovative Food Processors (IFP) to co-develop and co-market “ready-to-commercialize” UC-II stick packs. The result is streamlined process for a faster to market advantage and reduction of manufacturers development costs.
UC-II is a GRAS-determined and FDA-notified and published new dietary ingredient (NDI) sourced and made in the United States in a GMP-certified facility. A great, convenient way to deliver clinically studied benefits of UC-II to customers.
As a recognized industry leader, InterHealth is making significant contributions to nutritional science, as well as helping to support the quality of life for today’s health-conscious consumer. For more information about the company and its branded ingredients, visit www.interhealthusa.com.
