American Botanical Council’s (ABC) Founder & Director Mark Blumenthal has released an open letter to ABC members and the herbal products community stating that the ABC is seeking a new executive director (ED). “We are seeking an experienced and talented person who will help direct, manage, and lead ABC as it continues to provide and expand its unique nonprofit research and educational mission, publications, and programs now and into the future,” the letter stated.
“We are seeking a person who, preferably, is conversant with the science related to herbs, medicinal plants, and related natural products, who understands and is passionate about ABC’s nonprofit research and educational mission, and who has the leadership skills to help move ABC forward to new levels of success. We want a new ED who has previous experience successfully managing a nonprofit organization or business, preferably in the natural products space.
“And, for clarity, I am staying with ABC as its founder, and look forward to working with the new ED and personally contributing to the future success of the organization,” Blumenthal wrote.
He added, “I am profoundly grateful to the amazing and highly dedicated ABC staff, contractors and volunteers who have helped ensure ABC’s growth and myriad accomplishments and successes over the past 33-plus years. And, I have deep appreciation and gratitude to the ABC Board of Trustees, some of whom have served ABC for over 20 years with their vision and good counsel. And, of course, my lasting and continued appreciation to the hundreds of members of the ABC Advisory Board and Director’s Circle, and the thousands of ABC’s members, some of whom have supported ABC’s nonprofit research and educational programs for decades. With such a strong staff, volunteers, and committed board, and with a knowledgeable and dynamic new leader, I am confident of ABC’s continued growth and success for many years to come. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what we can and will accomplish.”
