Döhler Expands Global Color Capabilities

by Shari Barbanel | November 2, 2026

Creating successful food and beverage products increasingly requires color solutions that combine strong visual appeal with natural sourcing, reliable availability and efficient implementation. To support customers in meeting these requirements across markets, Döhler (Germany) is expanding its global color production network through major investments in Turkey and Mexico.

The expansion combines significantly increased production capacity with new processing technologies and a stronger regional manufacturing footprint, according to the company. This gives customers around the world greater flexibility when developing color solutions for different applications and enables Döhler to support projects from concept development through to scalable production.

At its production site in Karaman, Turkey, Döhler is making a substantial investment in its color capabilities. The expansion increases capacity across several existing production lines while introducing new technologies for additional color formats.

Production capacity for black carrot and beetroot will increase considerably, expanding Döhler’s ability to support customers with solutions based on these raw materials. The site’s liquid color capabilities are also being strengthened. In addition, resin columns and a new evaporator will increase capacity for anthocyanin- and betanin-based color solutions.

For powder applications, Döhler said it is adding new spray dryer technology that will significantly increase color powder production capacity. Further investment in a new jet mill will expand micronization capacity, supporting applications where fine particle size and consistent dispersion are important. A new roasting unit adds capabilities for natural brown colorants, while a new ball mill supports the production of color suspensions. The investment program has been implemented in phases throughout 2026, with completion of the overall expansion targeted for the end of the year.

Döhler is complementing these investments with the continued development of its new production site in the State of Mexico. The first phase of the site, located in the Arco 57 Industrial Park in San Francisco Soyaniquilpan de Juárez, opened in July 2026 and establishes a new regional hub for science, technology and the production of natural ingredients and integrated solutions.

As part of the next phase of expansion, Döhler is progressing plans for dedicated natural color production facilities in Mexico, further strengthening its industrial capabilities in the region.

By bringing production and technical expertise closer to customers in Mexico, across Latin America and North America, the company will support shorter response and delivery times, more efficient logistics and the development of solutions tailored to regional requirements. Local raw material sourcing and regional supply chain development will further strengthen these capabilities.

“Color plays an essential role in the sensory experience of food and beverages, but our customers need more than a broad portfolio,” said Jakob Schjoerring-Thyssen, Döhler’s global head of business unit colors. “They need solutions that can be developed efficiently, produced reliably and scaled across markets. By expanding our capabilities in Turkey and Mexico, we are bringing additional capacity, technology and production expertise closer to our customers and creating an even stronger platform for future color innovation.”

Together, the investments in Turkey and Mexico represent an important step in the continued development of Döhler’s international color production network.

By combining larger-scale production, specialized technologies and regional capabilities, Döhler can support customers with a broad spectrum of color requirements—from liquid and powder solutions to suspensions and micronized colors.

For customers, this expanded platform creates greater flexibility to move from product idea to industrial implementation while addressing different application, market and supply-chain requirements.
