Nutrition Industry Executive magazine’s October issue profiled some of the latest proprietary ingredients offered to manufacturers. Here, suppliers discuss how GMPs and other regulatory scrutiny affect their company and sales.

Shaheen Majeed, marketing director with Sabinsa Corporation: Sabinsa manufactures its products under strict cGMP (current good manufacturing practice) manufacturing standards and is willing to share its entire process of products, from cultivation to finished product, with its customers and regulatory personnel, as made evident in recent years when U.S. FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) visited five factories owned and operated by Sabinsa’s sister company, Sami Labs, in India. Such audits become increasingly vital for ongoing business growth and helps solidify customer confidence, which is critical for any brand.

Seth Flowerman director of business development, PLT Health Solutions: Our industry is characterized by a constantly evolving regulatory environment and we spend a great deal of time working with our suppliers and customers to ensure compliance. Typical projects may include investment in safety and efficacy work for our various proprietary ingredients, global regulatory registrations and supporting documentation, and GMP audits and process improvements at factories around the globe.

Heather Thompson, global marketing manager, Stratum Nutrition:  NEM brand eggshell membrane is manufactured in NSF-certified GMP facilities, which is not as common for an ingredient manufacturer as it is required for a finished product manufacturer. We feel that this adds value and delivers our high quality standards of the branded ingredient.

Kathy Lund, vice president business development and marketing, AIDP, Inc.: AIDP, Inc. takes safety and quality very seriously. We are one of a handful of suppliers that are NSF GMP certified.  The rigor and investment in this program is significant. Our customers can feel confident in the products they receive from AIDP. More and more customers are demanding a strong regulatory program from suppliers. This obviously adds expense but is necessary.
