Tim Lombardo is a widely regarded expert in food safety and microbiology with more than 20 years of direct experience leading these programs at a variety of manufacturing facilities. As a food safety consultant for nearly 10 years, Lombardo’s experience includes dairy, infant formula, baked goods, nuts and nut products, fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, spices, color flavors and other ingredients as well as many other food sector categories. He is a lead instructor through the Food Safety and Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) in Preventive Controls for both human and animal foods, a lead instructor for the HACCP Controls Alliance, and is certified in thermal/aseptic processing and sterilization through the Better Process Control School.

NIE: Certified Group recently announced an agreement to merge with Food Safety Net Services (FSNS). What does that mean for the future of the company?
Lombardo: The merger of the Certified Laboratories Group, under which EAS operates, and FSNS, is a fantastic opportunity for the food, supplement and cosmetics industries to bring all of their regulatory and testing needs under one umbrella. Whether the product is FDA or USDA regulated, the larger Certified/FSNS Group of laboratories offers a huge array of both chemistry and microbiology testing. EAS, of course supports all of these industries, as well as other FDA regulated industries with regulatory challenges. We have also been assisting the CBD/hemp/cannabis industries set up quality systems and food safety programs. Certified Group offers testing of these products both in their California and Canadian laboratories.
