Nutrition Industry Executive (NIE) magazine’s NIE New Ingredient Awards will add a new category to this year’s contest. For the first time since its inception in 2019, the contest will include the “Established Ingredient—New Science” category.
“While the contest’s main focus is on new ingredients, this new category will open the awards to the ingredient suppliers who have invested significant time and resources to enhance the understanding, efficacy and usefulness of their time-tested, established products,” said Janet Poveromo, editor-in-chief of NIE, and NIE New Ingredients Awards judge.
To be eligible for the contest, the “established ingredient” must have been released for use in the United States before Oct. 1, 2022. The “new science” must have been announced to the U.S. natural products industry after Oct. 1, 2022.
Criteria for the contest in all categories are based on:
- Product Research/Evidence/Bioavailability
- Sustainability/Traceability/Certifications (if applicable)
- Consumer Need
- The “Impressiveness Factor”
Along with the Established Ingredient—New Science, the other award categories are: Healthy Aging; Condition Specific; Personal Care/Cosmetics; Excipients/Non-Actives/Delivery Systems; Sports Nutrition; Weight Management.
The NIE New Ingredient Awards contest is designed to help the industry discover promising new nutritional ingredients that are backed with high-quality research and offer market impact with important advancements for the health of the consumers that depend on natural products. Since the launch, the awards have become established as an industry recognition of excellence.
